About this guide

Intima Sovet started in the autumn of 2021 as a single document: a personal spreadsheet of bra styles, their Japanese size equivalents, and notes on which brands sized consistently. Mia Tanaka had spent years buying the wrong size in the wrong style, returning things, and starting over. The spreadsheet grew. Friends asked for copies. By winter 2021 it had become a proper reference, and by the following spring it was a website.

Quick quiz

Which guide should you read first?

Answer three questions and we will point you to the guide that matches your actual question right now.

What is the main thing you are trying to figure out?

How much do you already know about bra sizing?

Are you shopping for something specific right now?

Here is where to start

Based on your answers, the fit guide or the bra styles index is likely the most useful starting point. Both are free, written to stand alone, and updated regularly. If fabric is the question, the care reference covers twelve materials in plain terms.

Who

"Mia Tanaka studied textile science at a university in Kyoto and spent four years working in the buying department of a mid-size apparel company in Osaka, where she handled fabric sourcing and supplier documentation. She left in 2021 to write Intima Sovet full-time after the site outgrew her evenings. She lives in Tokyo and reads more care labels than most people would consider reasonable. Her other ongoing project is a slow translation of a 1960s French lingerie pattern archive."

FAQ

Common questions

Do I need to create an account to read the guides?

No account needed. Every guide on the site is free and open. You can read the bra style index, the fit guide, the fabric reference, and all the seasonal edits without signing up for anything. The only thing that requires an email address is the newsletter, and that is optional.

How often is the size conversion table updated?

The table is checked against brand size charts twice a year, usually in March and September, when most brands update their sizing documentation. If a specific brand changes its sizing between those checks and a reader flags it, the entry is updated within a week. Each entry shows the date it was last verified.
